Thank you to Lionfish Caribbean and The Diveshop in Curaçao for inviting us to be a sponsor of the Curaçao Lionfish Derby! Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and are threatening the well-being of coral reefs. Since they have very few natural predators and multiply quickly, their population has grown out of control. On Saturday, November 21st, teams of divers set out across the island to spear as many lionfish as possible. In total, 135 lionfish were safely removed from the reef! Prizes were given for most lionfish killed, the most weight in total, the largest lionfish, and the smallest lionfish. Fortunately for our coral reefs, lionfish are delicious! The fish were sold to a local restaurant and the money went to the first place team. We look forward to working with Lionfish Caribbean and The Diveshop in Curaçao in the future!
