Nudi Wear recently joined forces with Trident Adventures for another impactful Oahu underwater cleanup. If you’ve ever been scuba diving at Point Panic, you know this is a hot spot for marine debris. That is why we have adopted this dive site and host cleanups here at least 10 times a year. This event saw a fantastic turnout of volunteers, including SCUBA divers, freedivers, and a lot of land support!

We can’t thank our land support crew enough. They went above and beyond by removing two large trash bags full of debris from the shoreline. Not only did they prevent debris from ending up in the water in the first place, but they were incredibly helpful in assisting our divers out of the water with heavy dive gear and large debris items. Their hard work and support played a key role in the success of the cleanup. The freedivers also deserve recognition for making a significant impact by removing a large amount of fishing line and 179 lead fishing weights!

In total, the teams collected 253 pounds of trash from the ocean and another 15 pounds from the land. Among the most unusual finds was a cochlear implant hearing aid! Some other items recovered during the event included 3 tires, 34 glass bottles, 21 plastic bottles, 13 aluminum cans, 7 spark plugs, a roll of painter’s tape, and a water hose.

We’re incredibly grateful to Trident Adventures for partnering with us for another Oahu underwater cleanup as well as all the volunteers who came out to help. A special thank you to Senator Brian Schatz, who stopped by to show his support for the cleanup efforts.

Together, we’re making a difference in preserving the beauty of our oceans—one dive at a time. Our hope is that the next time you go scuba diving at Point Panic, you see a little less marine debris. Join us on Saturday, March 8th for another shot at freeing this dive site from deadly marine debris! Be sure to check out all of our upcoming events here.
