This past Saturday, on December 4th, 2021, we held our monthly underwater cleanup at our adopted dive site, Point Panic. Even though the weather forecast was calling for rain, we had absolutely perfect conditions. The rain held off for the entirety of the event and the ocean was calm. Entry and exit at the stairs was a breeze!

Even though we have cleaned this dive site 10 times over the past year, there is always plenty of trash to be removed. During this cleanup alone, the 17 volunteers hauled out 158 pounds from the ocean!

Some of the notable items removed were a charcoal grill, a speargun, 2 hats, a window screen, a large rope, a fishing net, and golf balls. We also removed a large amount of the usual single use plastics, cans, glass bottles, and fishing waste such as line, weights, and hooks.

Mahalo to all of the volunteers who showed up to help out! We appreciate you taking a few hours out of your weekend to help clean our watery playground. We hope to see you at our next cleanup on January 15th at Point Panic with Aaron’s Dive Shop, Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR), and Protea Zero Waste! Check out the details HERE.
